Desert

i’ve never had lemon bars

and it’s been years since i’ve last seen you

but i think they’d be especially good with raspberries

and we don’t always talk much

but i know i love licking off powdered sugar

and i love gooey cake bars and tangy fillings the color of your hair

i don’t know if we’ll ever cross paths again, and if it’s even possible we’ll remember each other

but i can recall the taste of a cream cheese icing that glows under the summer heat

and i think it’d go well on lemon bars

with iced-tea and mint on the side

i know most of it’s in the past

but the recipe’s for two and i still think of you eating desert by myself
